Repairs

Deguellle garments are made to last: robust fabrics, small quantities, made in a haute façon workshop. With time, wear or a tear will come, and it is very unpleasant to no longer be able to wear a garment you love. We chose to make repair possible.

A rolled length of ecru wool cloth lying on red velvet.

Each garment comes with a swatch of its fabric, attached to a card stating the fabric reference, the dye lot and the garment number. Plant-based dyes cannot be reproduced identically: this piece, from the same lot, is the best starting point for a mend.

Deguellle also keeps an archive of fabrics. If the swatch is lost or insufficient, the garment number lets us find the material and offer a replacement piece, within the limits of the archive and for ten years from the date of the collection.

The repair will never be invisible, it is part of the life of the garment.

Repair is a craft. The repair tailor, long overlooked, is regaining value today: extending a garment’s life by mending, darning, replacing a piece. Tiphaine Deguelle wrote the training curriculum for the “clothing repairer” certification program at Fashion Green Hub Paris, driven by her commitment to promoting the value of this profession.
